Pakistan’s Defence Minister Issues Global Warning
ISLAMABAD – Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has issued a stern warning to the international community regarding Israel’s alleged nuclear arsenal. He emphasized that Tel Aviv’s refusal to follow international nuclear protocols poses a growing threat to both regional and global stability.
In a statement on Monday, Asif said that Israel remains outside the scope of all nuclear non-proliferation agreements, including the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). This allows it to run its nuclear operations without oversight or accountability.
“Israel is not a signatory to the NPT, nor does it comply with any binding international nuclear discipline,” Asif said. “The world must be wary and apprehensive of this unchecked nuclear capability that risks engulfing the region — and potentially the world — in conflict.”
Pakistan Criticizes Western Nuclear Double Standards
Khawaja Asif also criticized what he described as Western hypocrisy in nuclear policy. He accused Western powers of supporting a “rogue state” while ignoring its refusal to comply with global nuclear norms.
“The Western world’s patronage of Israel — despite its refusal to submit to international nuclear norms — may lead to disastrous consequences,” he warned.
He urged these nations to reconsider their support before it results in irreversible outcomes.
Pakistan Defends Its Nuclear Doctrine
Asif highlighted the contrast between Pakistan’s nuclear policy and Israel’s. He reaffirmed that Pakistan follows all international nuclear agreements and behaves as a responsible nuclear state.
“Pakistan is a responsible nuclear state. We adhere to all international agreements and our doctrine is grounded in minimum credible deterrence,” he said. “Unlike Israel, we do not seek hegemony or destabilize our neighbours.”
Rising Tensions Amid the Israel-Gaza Conflict
Asif’s comments come during escalating violence in the Middle East. The continuing Israel-Gaza conflict has led to increasing civilian casualties. This situation has intensified calls for nuclear transparency and restraint.
Though Israel has never confirmed it possesses nuclear weapons, independent analysts estimate that it holds around 80 to 90 warheads. Israel also does not participate in the IAEA’s Additional Protocol, which further shields its nuclear operations from global inspection.
Call for Immediate Global Action
Khawaja Asif concluded by urging the United Nations, IAEA, and the wider international community to act. He stressed the urgency of addressing Israel’s unregulated nuclear activities.
“Ignoring Israel’s nuclear defiance is a collective failure,” he said. “The time has come for the world to demand accountability and prevent a future shaped by nuclear recklessness.”
