Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Convenes in Islamabad Today
Eid-ul-Azha 2025 moon sighting in Pakistan: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to meet today (Monday) in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad to observe the moon of Zil-Hajj, the final month of the Islamic calendar. This meeting holds significant importance as it will determine the date for Eid-ul-Azha, one of the two major Islamic festivals observed by Muslims worldwide.
Zonal Committees to Report Regional Moon Sightings
Alongside the Central Committee, zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also convene in their respective regions across the country to collect and report any credible moon sightings. Based on the collective reports, an official announcement regarding the beginning of Zil-Hajj and the date of Eid-ul-Azha will be made later tonight.
Significance of Eid-ul-Azha in Islamic Tradition
Eid-ul-Azha, often referred to as the Festival of Sacrifice, is observed on the 10th day of Zil-Hajj. It honors the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.), who was prepared to sacrifice his son in submission to Allah’s will.
Eid-ul-Azha 2025 moon sighting in Pakistan
This year, if the moon is sighted today (May 27), Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on Thursday, June 6. If not, the current month of Zul-Qadah will be extended to 30 days, and Eid will then be observed on Friday, June 7.
Low Possibility of Moon Sighting on May 27, Say Experts
Astronomical experts and religious scholars suggest that “Eid-ul-Azha 2025 moon sighting in Pakistan” on May 27 is low due to unfavorable celestial conditions. Supporting this, SUPARCO (Pakistan’s national space agency) has stated that the moon will not be visible in most parts of the country on that date.
Moon More Likely to Be Sighted on May 28
According to SUPARCO, the moon is more likely to be sighted on Tuesday, May 28, which would make June 7 the more probable date for Eid-ul-Azha 2025.
Official Eid Date Announcement Expected Tonight
The final decision will rest with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which will announce the official date of Eid based on verified moon sighting reports received from across Pakistan later tonight.
