“Aditi Rao Hydari Criticizes Trolls Attacking Co-Star Sharmin Segal’s Performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Heeramandi'”
Aditi Rao Hydari condemned the backlash directed at Sharmin Segal for her performance in the web series, labeling it as “mean and horrible,” as reported by an Indian media outlet.
“It’s horrible to pick on anybody. It’s a fact that people have choices of liking something or not. There is a way to say it. It can get very mean. the response has gotten very mean and I think it’s fair and it shouldn’t be like that,” Hydari regretted on the attitude od people.
Hydari emphasized that while people have the right to their opinions, there should be a more respectful manner of expressing criticism. “It was the people’s choice if they wanted to be mean. There should be a way around it, otherwise it would be come really difficult. Whoever is facing this criticism, I would just say, ‘try to look at the positive,'” she added.
Sharmin Segal, known for her role in ‘Heeramandi’, faced harsh criticism, being labeled the weakest link in the cast. Viewers questioned Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s decision to cast her, speculating it was due to her relation to him.
In response to the brutal trolling on social media, Segal disabled comments on her recent Instagram posts. Notably, she is Bhansali’s niece and had assisted him on several projects before her on-screen debut in ‘Malaal’.
Segal had previously addressed the online backlash, acknowledging the pressure and sharing how she copes with it. “These response gives a lot of pressure and sometimes it’s evident in unnatural ways. But fortunately I am bestowed with a really good support system. for me my most powerful support system is my sibling. My sister too happened to be an assistant director that show. So, for me it worked out in a way where I do have other channels where I can breathe,” she expressed.
